Chinese Facts
Writing in Chinese is a mystery for the uninitiated - you simply have to learn each symbol's meaning and pronunciation - there are no clues from how each symbol looks
Chinese has changed a lot over the years - the 20th century saw the disappearance of a lot of Imperial Chinese, which included many words used for politeness and to indicate social status
53 percent of China are able to converse in Standard Mandarin, and while that seems like a low figure, it represents about 700 million people
Our native-speaking qualified Chinese teachers can guide you and your group at your work or at home, at a time convenient to you. Classes can take place on any day of the week - even weekends - morning, afternoon or evening. If needs be, if meeting at your office or home is not suitable, you can take your lessons at the trainer's office. Study materials are supplied for you.
Book now / InquiryThese Chinese lessons are driven towards people who have a requirement to learn Chinese to bolster their work output. For novices, you will find it useful to learn basic greetings and business etiquette; and once you have become more proficient then reading and writing will come to the fore. Typical students include those concerned with import/export, those seeking work in multinational companies, international negotiations, and anyone working with international colleagues or administration. Even on our most rudimentary beginners course, students can expect to finish the course with decent telephone and e-mail Chinese, as well as a good enough grip on the language for a short trip to the country.
Book now / InquiryChinese courses of this type are broader and are aimed towards students with a variety of requirements. While all beginner level students will cover survival Chinese - needed for short visits to countries where English isn't widely spoken, or if you wish to 'go local'; those studying Chinese usually go in different directions at this point, depending on what they need. Those who have benefitted from these Chinese classes have been those investing in or buying property overseas, those married to overseas nationals, people setting off on a round-the-world trip, enthusiasts in Chinese culture, and those enthusiastic to pass a specific exam in Chinese.
Book now / InquiryIf there are 2 or more of you with the same level of Chinese, the same targets within the language, and be able to study at the same time and location, then you'll be happy to know that these Chinese courses can also be made available for Two-to-One Chinese Courses or Small Group In-Company Chinese Courses. Listen & Learn do not generally recommend classes of more than 6-8 people, although Taster courses in Chinese can run with up to 12 people. Bookings must be made for all participants at the same time.

Los Angeles
Home to around 4 million Angelenos, Los Angeles is a renowned center of entertainment and culture, technology and international trade. With its Spanish name, you would not be wrong in assuming a large quantity of Hispanic residents - a large proportion of the city's population speak both Spanish and English as part of their daily routine; and English only just outweighs Spanish as the city's lingua franca. In recent decades, Los Angeles has had a massive influx of Latino and Asian immigrants, and thanks to the populace originating from over 140 different countries, L.A. is home to over 200 different languages. This polyglotism, present throughout the city, can work as an effective encouragement for those who wish to learn another language, especially Spanish. An intensely interesting and diverse place, the city can feel almost like Central America in areas of downtown L.A., but this is emphatically offset by more affluent areas like Bel-Air and the Hollywood Hills.
Chinese Testimonials
"China has always fascinated me, and I'm going to be travelling around Asia in 6 months' time, so I wanted to be able to speak the basics. It was really hard at first, but my teacher was friendly and didn't rush me. I learned what I needed to learn - thanks Listen & Learn!"
