Présentation du jeu
La belote se joue à 4 joueurs (2 équipes de 2 joueurs) avec un jeu de 32 cartes. La belote est ce qu’on appelle un « jeu de levées » : le joueur qui a jeté la carte la plus forte dans le bois demandé, ou qui a coupé avec la carte d’atout la plus forte, remporte le pli.
Le but du jeu pour l’équipe est de remporter le plus de points possible.
Distribution des cartes
Le donneur distribue à chacun cinq cartes (respectivement trois et deux, ou deux et trois). Il pose le paquet de cartes au centre du tapis et retourne la première carte pour la rendre visible. Le premier joueur à parler est celui situé à droite du donneur.
Lors du premier tour de table, chaque joueur peut, tour à tour, choisir de prendre la couleur d’atout qui correspond à la carte retournée. Une fois un joueur ayant pris la carte de couleur retournée, le donneur distribue trois autres cartes à chaque joueur (deux seulement pour le preneur).
Si personne ne choisit de prendre la carte d’atout, un autre tour de table s’opère et chaque joueur peut alors choisir la couleur d’atout de son choix (le joueur choisissant la couleur d’atout doit prendre la carte retournée).
Règles du jeu
Le joueur situé à droite du donneur lance la carte de son choix. Chaque joueur doit fournir une carte du même bois, s’il le peut. S’il ne peut pas, il doit alors jouer une carte d’atout (on dit qu’il « coupe »), sauf si son partenaire est déjà maître, dans quel cas il peut se défausser de la carte de son choix. On « surcoupe » lorsqu’un adversaire a déjà coupé, et que l’on est obligé de couper d’une carte plus forte. Le joueur qui a joué la carte la plus forte remporte la main, et commence le tour suivant, et ainsi de suite.
La belote
Le joueur qui possède à la fois la dame et le roi d’atout bénéficie de 20 points supplémentaires s’il s’exclame « belote » et « rebelote » lorsqu’il lance ces deux cartes. L’équipe remportant le dernier pli, bénéficie de 10 points supplémentaires (règle du 10 de der).
