Japanese Facts

Particles' are used often in Japanese - small words which denote how words in a sentence relate to one another

Japanese lacks 'phonemes' (sounds) that are present in most other languages - for example, Japanese have no 'L' sound, and use their own sound to replace it, which sounds more like an 'R'

Japan's complex social distinctions are reflected in the language's use of 'honorifics', where special word forms, verb endings, suffixes and vocabulary are used depending on the social status of the people conversing

Japanese 1 to 1 Business

These Japanese lessons are driven towards people who have a requirement to learn Japanese to bolster their work output. For novices, you will find it useful to learn basic greetings and business etiquette; and once you have become more proficient then reading and writing will come to the fore. Typical students include those concerned with import/export, those seeking work in multinational companies, international negotiations, and anyone working with international colleagues or administration. Even on our most rudimentary beginners course, students can expect to finish the course with decent telephone and e-mail Japanese, as well as a good enough grip on the language for a short trip to the country.

Japanese 1 to 1 General

These Japanese courses are more general in nature and are targeted at students with a whole range of different needs. While all beginners level students can expect to cover Survival Japanese - required for short visits to a country where English may not be spoken and/or the intention is to make good contacts with the local population, students then generally progress in different directions depending on their needs. Typical students include those buying property overseas, spouses of overseas nationals, people about to set off on that long-awaited world trip, Japanese culture enthusiasts and those who are keen to pass a particular Japanese examination.

Houston

A diverse place with around 90 languages spoken within city limits, Houston has one of the youngest populations in Texas and the USA as a whole. With over 2 million people living in a 600 square mile area, the city is a melting pot of culture, heritage, and language. Houston has attracted tens of thousands of Asian immigrants, especially from Vietnam and China - in fact, the city has not one, but two Chinatowns! This gives the city an incredible depth for learning (and practicing) a foreign language, especially if you want to learn something more 'exotic' than the norm.

Japanese Testimonials

"I took some Japanese classes back at college but never learned to read and write. I picked up where I left off with my teacher from Listen & Learn and I can now read basic Japanese pretty well - I've got a long way to go is great and lessons are always really helpful."
