Portuguese Facts
While Portuguese has many similarities in grammar and vocabulary with other Romance tongues, it is only really mutually intelligible for Spanish people - and even then communication is difficult
With more than 210 million native speakers in the world, Portuguese is the 7th most spoken language in the world
Portuguese and Spanish may have strong similarities, but there are also gaping differences; such as a widely differing stock vocabulary (i.e. basic, common words), very different word endings, and a more complex usage of the definite article ('the')
Our native speaker qualified Portuguese language teachers can train you and your colleagues at your office or home at a time to suit you. Classes can be any day of the week (even weekends) in the morning, afternoon or evening. In certain circumstances, if your home or office is not suitable, you can take your classes at the trainer's office. Course books are provided.
Book now / InquiryThese Portuguese lessons are driven towards people who have a requirement to learn Portuguese to bolster their work output. For novices, you will find it useful to learn basic greetings and business etiquette; and once you have become more proficient then reading and writing will come to the fore. Typical students include those concerned with import/export, those seeking work in multinational companies, international negotiations, and anyone working with international colleagues or administration. Even on our most rudimentary beginners course, students can expect to finish the course with decent telephone and e-mail Portuguese, as well as a good enough grip on the language for a short trip to the country.
Book now / InquiryThese Portuguese courses are more general in nature and are targeted at students with a whole range of different needs. While all beginners level students can expect to cover Survival Portuguese - required for short visits to a country where English may not be spoken and/or the intention is to make good contacts with the local population, students then generally progress in different directions depending on their needs. Typical students include those buying property overseas, spouses of overseas nationals, people about to set off on that long-awaited world trip, Portuguese culture enthusiasts and those who are keen to pass a particular Portuguese examination.
Book now / InquiryThe Portuguese courses are also available for 2 or more people studying together (Two-to-One Portuguese Course or Small Group In-Company Portuguese Course). All participants must have the same level, the same business or general language needs and be able to study at the same time in the same location. The booking must be made for all participants at the same time. Listen & Learn do not recommend group classes of more than 6-8 people although In-Company Taster Portuguese Courses can be run with up to 12 people.

Minneapolis
The primary business hub between Chicago and Seattle, Minneapolis is the largest city in the state of Minnesota. The three prime factors of business contacts, population size and diverse waves of immigration combine to make Minneapolis an ideal location to embrace learning a new language! The history of immigration to Minneapolis is unquestionably rich. Mid-nineteenth century arrivals originated from the Scandinavian nations of Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway, and later an abundance of immigrants settled in Minneapolis from Greece, Italy, Poland and Germany. The city now hosts a sizeable population of Russian, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese and Korean communities, as well as groups from Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and throughout Africa. Talk about ethnic diversity - and just think what this means for the possibility of talking another language!
Portuguese Testimonials
"I'm planning a trip around Brazil next year with some friends, and we all wanted to learn some basic Portuguese. Our teacher was great - she made sure we were all up to date and we got better even faster by practicing with each other outside of classes. We can't wait to get to Brazil."
